Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Advance product knowledge
- Safe food handling and storage
- Safe use of sharp knives and meat saws
- Able to relate cooking ideas for product to customers
- Completion of a full butcher apprenticeship
- Excellent communication skills
Responsibilities and qualifications:
- Break product (beef, pork, lamb and poultry)
- Butcher meat, poultry and fish
- Perform all duties of a meat customer service clerk
- Order product when requested
- Inventory product
- Provide excellent and quality service to customers
- Package, weigh, label and price product
- Properly rotate product in case
- Maintain overall appearance and replenish items in case as needed
- Follow established weights and measures procedures (tares)
- Maintain both full and self-service counters
- Proper use of equipment
- Maintain and clean equipment and work areas to maintain health and sanitation standards
Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Able to follow instructions and procedures
- Must have basic knowledge of living conditions of animals and has the ability to educate the public on these issues
- Demonstrated ability in knife handling, other cutting equipment and safety procedures
- Adhere to all Oliver’s and Meat Department policies
- Follow and enforce all applicable State of California Health and Safety codes
- Able to fulfill all physical requirements of the position (complete list upon request)
- Stand, walk, reach and repetitive use of both hands
- Ability to bend and twist at waist and neck
- Occasionally lift/carry up to or over 85 pounds
